Dirigo

While the true etymology of “Maine” remains misty as the wet air that shrouds our lungs, you might surmise that such a name comes from the sea. Maine, with her giant berth, her heaving woodlands and intrepid woodland tenants, from beyond the breakers, looks undoubtedly — and so entirely is — the mainland. The main, as they would say. The Maine. The only monosyllabic state. (Take that Texas.) Simplified to perfection, existing in exquisite originality. Or, rather: existing in origin. Hence our motto: Dirigo. “I lead!” For whence your root has been discovered you’re granted the adventurous edge to see just how tall the trees grow. And if your discovery is the result of getting treed by a moose, well that’s all the more credit you can bestow upon the great soul-beat state of Maine. Say, is this an Eastern White Pine? Looks awfully green to me. Happy Hunting.
